Purpose

State the verified differences between Zwall Community and Zwall Enterprise without treating Community as deprecated.

Zwall Community

  • Public repository: https://github.com/zwall-net/zwall-community
  • License: AGPL-3.0-only
  • Limit: 3 registered Agents per Manager (enforced in Community Manager registration)
  • Deployment: source build you operate (go build, frontend npm build, scripts/setup.sh)
  • TLS: operator-managed certificate files. Community does not ship product-managed ACME or certificate-center workflows
  • Includes: Manager, Agents, web console, REST API, zwallctl, eBPF firewalling, virtualization visibility, Prometheus metrics, shipped Grafana dashboards
  • Does not include: Hosting Agent v2 profile, AI package, signed-release trust stack, vendor licensing, cluster package, in-product updater

Zwall Enterprise

  • Separate private codebase
  • Commercial edition. Public website pricing is Custom Pricing (Talk to an Engineer)
  • Additional platform capabilities include the Hosting Agent profile and AI Preview
  • Deployment direction: independently installed release verifier and trust root, then database-only schema admission from a verified release, then Manager/Agent service admission
  • Licensing/entitlement architecture exists in source. Code contains edition labels. Those labels are not a published price list. Do not invent SKUs or numeric prices.

What both editions share

  • Manager + Agent model
  • PostgreSQL as Manager system of record
  • /api/v1 as the operator API
  • zwallctl
  • Console login with username/password; TOTP 2FA exists
  • Virtualization/KVM/libvirt paths
  • Core rule/block/detection families present in Community README and Enterprise source
